And so we now
have a full view of IATSE, its functioning and the long road traveled since
its foundation a century ago in order to reach the goals set by the Statutes
of the International: “To ameliorate, by means of organized union work and
the unity of action, the economical and social conditions of employees
involved in stage, cinema, television, entertainment and commercial and
industrial shows…” Whomever works in the industry of shows or in the film
domain or in video and cinema, is in measure to judge how much this word of
order is still in actuality.
The pursuit of
this objective has sometimes been made very hard by profound structural,
corporative and technological changes that have through the years
“bouleverser” the world of stage, culture and entertainment. In spite of it
all, IATSE has always progressed and pushed further, firmly determined to
unite under its banner the multitude of trades related to the realization
and presentation of shows and entertainment of any kind, be it opera, drama,
cinema or video.
For our members,
belonging to the Alliance is not only a source of pride and security, it is
also an engagement to contribute, at the core of the union movement, to the
excellence of the product delivered to the public as well as to the
amelioration of the work conditions of the whole of workers in the industry
of stage and cinema.
The Alliance and
its local sections have largely proved themselves, not only in Broadway and
Hollywood, but also everywhere in America. Here in Quebec, the sections of
the Alliance have seen an incredible growth over the past five years,
notably at the level of local sections 262 and 523 via the unionization of
workers in the sector of movie theater exploitation as well as other groups
of workers related to the entertainment industry.
The Alliance
addresses itself today to all workers, technicians and artists of stage,
cinema, record and video of Quebec.
